California County Superintendents President Dr. Debra Duardo Statement on the 2023-2024 State Budget
On behalf of the county offices of education across the state, we celebrate the continued historic education-related opportunities in the 2023–24 California State Budget Act. This budget specifically increases investments in student populations that are typically underserved, such as the $80 million for juvenile court and county community schools, and the additional funding for differentiated assistance support, while also protecting the state’s transformational initiatives that nurture the whole child. Thanks to the efforts of the California County Superintendents and other education advocates, this budget ushers in a new era of unprecedented support for our students. It also invests in our diverse school leader pipeline, fostering a more inclusive and representative future. Once again, we are excited about the interconnected nature of these investments and how they will build on last year’s efforts.
County offices of education are poised to use this historical financial commitment to create supports that pave the way to graduation, college and careers. The victories for TK-12 education in this budget underscore the Governor and the Legislature’s commitment to support a holistic system that benefits all students by recognizing their individual needs. We look forward to working with our local educational agencies to realize the vision of this budget, to continue to fight for equity and make sure that every single student we serve in our public schools knows that they are entitled to the best quality public education possible.
