CISC MAY MEETING INFORMATION
The meeting will run from 9:00am – 4:00pm on Thursday, and from 8:00am – 12:00pm on Friday.
Each CISC member may invite a guest to attend BOTH the Thursday, May 18 AND the Friday, May 19 meetings. You may invite one guest on day one and a different guest on day two. For this reason, you will need to register your guest(s) for each day separately. The fee for guests attending on Thursday is $50 to cover Breakfast & Lunch, and the fee for guests attending on Friday is $25 to cover Breakfast.
On Thursday, May 18, our primary learning will focus on Improvement Science. Paul LeMahieu, Senior Vice President of Programs at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, will provide an overview of their work. I encourage you, in preparation for the presentation, to consider reading/skimming Learning to Improve: How America’s Schools Can Get Better at Getting Better by Anthony S. On Friday, May 19, we will primarily focus our attention on the free, OER, Instructional Practice Toolkit resources http://achievethecore.org/category/1193/instructional-practice-toolkit-and-classroom-videos developed by Student Achievement Partners (SAP)/Achieve the Core. These tools are designed for use by teachers and those who support teachers to build understanding and experience with instruction aligned to College and Career Readiness (CR ) standards in mathematics and ELA/literacy (State Priorities 2 and 4: Implementation of State Standards and Student Achievement). East Coast based SAP staff will present and deepen our understanding as to how these resources can be utilized to improve student achievement.
In addition to these two key topics, updates from CDE staff and ongoing CISC efforts, including our discussion regarding a consistent method of differentiated assistance in response to the November 2017 release of Dashboard data, will be included on the a very robust and rich agenda.
